Miseration: Your demons, their angels

18/09/08  ||  Kampfar

Miseration brings misery in the form of being completely impossible to write a decent intro for. In fact, I hate Scat Symmetry is all I could come up with. And Miseration is, ladies and ladyboys, simply put a rougher version of just mentioned shitfest. Let me use weather terminology to illustrate the difference in roughness, which isn’t roughness: think of SS as dead still, barely a leaf moving, and Miseration as a light breeze packed with a skirt lifting draft or two.

So not exactly Morgue or Insect Warfare this, Pisseration through and through sounding as a bunch of men into dealing with this complex world of “ours” the mature way. Fuck, even their anger sounds constructed and constricted. But I cannot deny here is talent aplenty, on all fronts, including a well-groomed knack for writing music you have heard 10 times before if over 12 and/or not a newbie.

SS I mentioned but while at it I failed to inform that Christian “I am a member of 1 out 10 Swedish bands” Älvestam is the vocalist of Miseration as well. And he sounds fucking ace, which he always do when not using his lisp free Dan Swanö approach. However, you will find some of it used on “YDTA” as well, most of it, around 90%, to be found in choruses, all of which I don’t like very much. Like not at all.

I like the main vocals, I’m impressed by the general level of skills, and I like how it sounds, fucking huge, if you wonder, yet I more or less fail to enjoy “Your demons, their angels”. No hope it’ll grow on me either, for I just reached the point where I can’t stomach another go, deleting the fucker as I speak with my fingers.

I want blood, mayhem and chaos, not melodic death spiced with a slice of modern thrash ala Darkane and some fx. Or, at times I do, for Marionette I fucking dig. Go for the latter, which is a band, not a project made for the sake of trying out ideas. Still, Miseration is a band very likely to be very enjoyed by some dickheads out here.

5,5 out of 10.
